Fred McGavran Wins 2007 St. Lawrence Book Award

Fred McGavran of Cincinnati won the fourth annual St. Lawrence Book Award for a first collection. Black Lawrence Executive Editor Colleen Ryor telephoned Fred with the good news around 9:00 P.M. Eastern on Thursday. “Is it too late to call?” she aked. “Oh, no…you could have called at 1:00 A.M. and that would have been fine,” he said, adding that he has been having a good streak lately, having just found out that he was also recently named the winner of the

Writers Digest Short Story Contest in the horror category. Fred’s short story manucript, The Butterfly Collector, was chosen out of a pool of entries that was more than double that of any previous year.
